There is one thing that ticks the annoying box for me on Twitter is people that follow you and you read through their updates and all you see is “me, me, me” updates, where all they are doing is pushing links to their sites and not replying to others in return.

So if you want me to follow you back here are my simple criteria:

1. Speak to your followers, engage with them. If I see you are doing that then I will follow you back.

2. This is not a strict criteria it depends if my “spidey sense” is tingling, if I see lots of followers/following and zero updates then I tend not to follow back, however if something tells me that in future you might have something interesting to say or offer me, then I’ll follow you back.

3. Auto DMing me, I don’t mind it, but it would be nice to have a follow up DM from a human being.

So bear this in mind when you follow me, follow me because you find me interesting not just because you are trying to bump up your follower numbers.

I started out like that, but I soon came to realise that you are not going to generate meaningful relationships that way.

So lets spread the twitter love wisely, that way twitter can become “awesome”.

Can we start out this new year without bailing out the financial institutions? They are not going to learn their lessons if there is going to be a “whip round” for them.

I feel sorry for the staff lower down the corporate ladder who are going to be joining the dole queue this year.

Why do we  blindly trust in those with the most power? Time some folks grew a backbone and challenge what their bosses are doing.

If you feel something is wrong, don’t cower in the corner and keep quiet because you think that your job is on the line if you speak out.

Companies cannot be run with an iron fist. Otherwise we will never learn from the mistakes of the past.

By the time of writing this everyone should be in 2009.

I hope you all receive what you wish for this year.

I know I’m going to.
