As you’ve all heard twitter are trialling a new API, called user stream API which should do away with API call limits. I’m not a coder so cannot really go into great detail about it. Other than basically all tweets whether they be in your friends stream, @replies etc., will now be displayed in real time as they are posted instead of having to wait for Tweetdeck to call on the API at set intervals to retrieve new tweets.

It’s fun just sitting there watching there watching the tweets come flooding in, you cannot keep up with the sheer volume if like me you are following over 1,000 people, you are best creating a load of search columns to filter out tweets of interest.

I’m definitely impressed and cannot wait for this to be rolled out to the masses.

Anyone else watch Sherlock last week? What are your thoughts?

I thought it was brilliant. It does really bring Sherlock Holmes into the 21st Century. The touches with the mobile phone texts on the screen did annoy me the first time they appeared but soon got used to them and in the end fitted quite well.

I admit that I’d never heard of Benedict Cumberbatch so I had an open mind about his acting ability. I really enjoyed his acting in the first episode.

I was wondering how well Tim Freeman would handle being John Watson and was really delighted how well he played him. They seemed to have a good chemistry together can’t wait to see how their relationship develops over the next 2 episodes.

I really enjoyed the scene with the Taxi Driver and Sherlock, a sort of battle of the minds. I’d seen the actor who played the taxi driver in other dramas and was as ever a joy to watch. His name escapes me at the moment.

I hope the next 2 episodes are as good.

Good work from Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss.

Okay a strange one this, never received an email back from posterous regarding an import of my wordpress blog. I was just using it as an experiment to see what the service was like. Now I know.

Enough about that. I have been in two minds whether to continue posting on my posterous blog and having it autopost to my other blog and have finally decided to give it another go. I know it’ll mean me going through those autoposts, tidying them up into the proper categories.

It’ll give me more freedom and a wider range of things I can auto embed via posterous.

There you go the  title sums up the week I’ve had completely.

Phoned dentist on wednesday for an appointment for severe tooth pain. Appointment made for 9.20 am the following morning.

The tooth cannot be removed at the moment incase it affects the 16+ year old plate in my jaw after my RTA, fair enough. So X rays were taken, just waiting for the results to come back to see what’s going to happen next.

Course of anti-biotics comes to an end today, but I can still feel that the tooth is far from being 100% okay. However the pain has subsided thanks to a cocktail of co-codamol and ibuprofen.

So far this week I’ve looked like a bulldog chewing a wasp, walked like an old man and had  the balance of a toddler taking their 1st steps.  Oh yes and feel like I’ve been in a mobile sauna.

So how has your week been? :)

Definition:

Excuse: 1. Try to lessen blame attaching to (person, act); forgive. 2. serve as reason to judge (person, act). 3. (often+from) grant exemption to noun justify offence. 2 apology

The context I’m using this is in, you’ve been asked to do something, it either hasn’t been done correctly or it hasn’t been done at all, the first thing that many people do is to make an excuse. They only work once, so why bother using them at all?

Put forward a solution to make sure that you do the task correctly, for example making sure that you have the proper tools for the task. If you haven’t got the necessary tools then ask for them, don’t make an excuse especially if it was an important task.

Definition:

Blame: 1. Assign fault or responsibility. 2. (on+) assign responsibility for (error etc.) to noun 1. responsibility for bad result. 2. blaming; attributing of responsibility

We are quick to blame others for our own misfortunes.  For example if you are the manager of your department and something goes wrong. Don’t blame those that report to you, the buck stops with you, as they are doing what you ask of them. If that’s the way you work maybe you need to take a long hard look at yourself and think am “I cut out for management?”

Sorry for the lack of posting been out on a ghost hunting trip, managed to get a severe headache and toothache in the process the OED posts will continue as normal tomorrow.

Definition:

Mistake incorrect idea or opinion; thing incorrectly done, thought or judged

People will make a lot of mistakes in their life and career. What makes some people stand out is when they hold their hands up and admit they made a mistake, they don’t make an excuse for it, they don’t try and blame someone else for it.

These same people go away and learn from their mistakes and endeavour not to make the same one again.

Definition:

Diversify 1. make diverse; vary 2. (often + into) expand range of products 3. spread (investment) over several enterprises

Many people complain that they’re losing money, they do not know where the money is coming from to cover the rent and other living expenses. In most cases they have a single income stream which is akin to putting all of your eggs in a single basket, which is a big no no.

Identify your skills, then see where they can fit in other fields to bring you in additional income streams incase your main one dries up. If your skills are lacking in a certain area find a college course and enhance those skills.

Learn to diversify, those who stay in the same field fearing to venture out will be left behind trying to play catch up for the rest of their lives.

Acronym Buster:

OED = Oxford English Dictionary

I came up with this  idea literally about 20 minutes ago whilst sitting in the bath. I’m going to write a series of posts choosing words that appear in the OED (see Acronym Buster above) and apply them to  life.

I won’t be flicking through the pages of the OED, these words will just pop into my head and I’ll use them.

Not only will all these posts appear in a new category called OED all of these posts will be prefixed with [OED].

At the top of the page there will be the OED definition of the word, then I’ll apply it to a real life.  Some words I’ll link together and I’ll post the link to a previous post mentioning that word.

Let me know what you think in the comments as always.
