Wind Turbines

This post is mainly focussed on the wind turbines that resemble aircraft propellers.

This has got me thinking for sometime now. Lots of people are coming out saying that these wind turbines are a blot on the landscape and shouldn’t be built.

I suspect the same arguments were given when coal fired power stations were first built then followed by nuclear power plants.

What these people tend to forget is coal, gas and oil reserves will be gone within 30 years, so how are they going to live their day to day lives?

Sunshine isn’t in abundance in this country, so solar panels will only solve part of the problem, what we do have is plenty of wind, so why not harness it?

  1. I think wind turbines are actually very elegant, even majestic… the slow turn of the blades provides a serene backdrop to parts of our coutryside.

Of course, what we do also have (being an island) is plenty of surrounding water. Wave turbines could be a very good alternative…
