I’m sure there has to be a quicker way to upload files to a vps.

I assume it’s possible to upload an archive then un-archive it once you’ve uploaded it?

Who stole Tuesday?

I was going to post yesterday, but I was rather busy with getting my store up and running. Also learning CSS at the same time slows you down quite a bit.

It’s been a crap day weather wise, but hey we wouldn’t be british if we didn’t grumble about the weather at least once a day.

Facebook

I’ve started using facebook a lot more lately, not that I have really anything interesting to say. I’ve been sucked back into playing those games, which I said I’d not play again, but once you get into them they are rather fun. :)

Employment

I’m still on the job hunting treadmill. I am still registered as self employed so if any good paying things come in I can jump straight on them without having to go out and sit behind a desk and do the the 9 to 5 grind. Inevitably I am going to have to find gainful employment. I’m looking at trying to re-train in different areas, but that of course takes money. If I were guaranteeed to get places on courses paid for then I’d be retraining like a shot.

So instead I’m picking up new knowledge searching the internet and looking for any opportunities that may arise.

Parting Shot

My tip of the day is if someone comes in swinging then duck.

I’d originally drafted this whilst my connection was down.

This blog entry might actually be posted a day after I have written it due to my internet connection refusing to work, so somethings I say in here may have already happened. Or things may have changed completely.

If you are reading this in the future then I have been living in a cave for the past year or so and I haven’t realised the connection has been restored and this post has automatically been posted. There is no need to send help, the connection will have probably died again and I’ve moved to mars.

Don’t think much of the red sky though, way too much dust and the company is nothing to write home about. I thought I’d seen some signs of intelligent life but realised I’d been walking around in circles for several days, following my own footprints, not saying that I’m not intelligent, thought there was another intelligent being to hold a meaningful conversation with. I could start talking to myself, it might pass the time of day.

Until the next time, whenever the connection comes back up, see you in alpha centauri.

If you didn’t already know. It’s the beginning of the week and for many the beginning of the working week. You’ve really enjoyed the weekend, you’ve got tons of fun stuff done, or you’ve caught up on long over due DIY.

Then 6am Monday rolls around and suddenly someone has stolen all of your energy, you’re dreading the commute to work, battling with lots of other people to find a comfortable seat on the bus or the train. You play the rush hour traffic lottery, should I hit the snooze button and have a few extra minutes in bed? Then having to explain to the boss why you are at least 20 minutes late because a lorry has had the audacity to shed it’s load over all three lanes of the motorway, with the thoughts going back to that extra few minutes in bed.

Or you just want to punch the lights out of the driver who just cut you up to save a few precious seconds in the mad dash to work.

Wouldn’t you love to give all of that up and work from home? The longest commute you have is from your bedroom to the home office via the kitchen to top up the caffeine. The joy of working in your pyjamas not having to go into the jungle on a daily basis.

Working from Home

I’m starting the long process in doing that, however I have been out of permanent work for over 5 years now. As the days go by I’m finding the thought of sitting behind a desk working for someone else less and less appealing by the day. It’s time to bend over and get someone to shove a rocket up my arse and light it.

My destiny is in my hands so they all say.

No I’m not going to stop claiming job seekers allowance, I still need government money to live on, that’s why I’m still hunting for work, sure there are still some jobs out there I would like to do that would tide me over to save money so I can strike out fully without having to rely on government handouts all of the time, or handouts from my parents.

Hence me re-launching my store over at www.wizzardsemporium.com sure it’s not going to make me mega bucks, but at least I’ll be working for myself and then once that is ticking over nicely expand into different areas, it will also give me the rocket up the arse I alluded to earlier.

I would also love to do a lot more in social media, I’d love to meet loads of people and get rid of some of my lingering shyness, yes you wouldn’t believe it from my ramblings on facebook and twitter that I’m shy and nervous.

Stick a phone in my hand and I become a gibbering wreck, yes It’s surprising I’ve done call centre work in the past, it’s great dealing with other peoples issues on the phone, but when it comes down to sorting out stuff for myself, I suddenly have a phobia of making a call.

Cash is the root of all necessity

It all boils down to cold hard cash, I want to do all of this stuff, I want the latest smartphones, tablets, automatic arse wipers. Money isn’t the root of all evil, it’s the root of all necessity.

Parting  Shot

So join me in the stay at home revolution and shun the boring office and work 24 hours a day from the comfort of your own home.

Thats the first word that came into my head when I thought of a title for this entry. You may have seen my wafflings on twitter about a mid life crisis, I don’t think I’m really going through one, I think it’s now time for me to grow old disgracefully.

Just a simple thing like finally changing my jeans size from a corset hugging size 34 to a size 40 waist. Now realising the belt I’m wearing no longer fits around the jeans, so had to order another one, yes I’ve done the lazy thing and ordered one from amazon. Seems to be more choice on-line and my budget is tight as I’m still getting JSA.

Earning Money

I’m still looking for ways to earn money. I’m finally getting round to setting up my store again over at wizzard’s emporium. Yes I know I seem to change my mind which ever way the wind is blowing, the truth is I think I was just becoming lazy and not wanting to put the legwork in to get the store off the ground. This time I’m determined for this not to happen.

Million Word Challenge

So what’s happening with my million world challenge, well guess what? I’ve decided to shelve the challenge. No not that I’m finding it difficult to write the million words, it’s turning out to be a chore, when something becomes a chore and you are no longer enjoying doing it, then you start to write less and less and start to lose interest. So I’m going to stick to blogging everyday not just to fulfill some spur of the moment challenge that I came up with to try and motivate myself to write more.

Yes that’s another challenge left unfinished I hear you all cry, I’m just going to pick challenges that I relish.

Social Media

Yes I’m still heavily into my social media, even though I haven’t been tweeting that much lately, mainly due to the fact for the last 3 days I’ve been working on getting my store up and running, you can follow my store account on twitter @wizzardsemp or you can follow the updates on the blog www.wizzardsemporium.com.

I have also this past week signed up to Empire Avenue, that quite a few people have been talking about, I’m finding it rather fun at the moment, check out my profile .

If you want to read my twitter ramblings visit my personal account @R_Arblaster.

Television

I’ve been watching some interesting stuff on the telly over the past few weeks.

The Walking Dead starring Andrew Lincoln about a post apocalyptic world were zombies are roaming the earth after a disease devastated the worlds population, where people die then a few hours later they wake up as full blown zombies. It’s the last episode tonight, well worth checking out. It’s already going to be available on blu-ray and dvd from Monday morning.

The Walking Dead – Season 1 [DVD] (aff link).

The Shadow Line – a brilliant behind the scenes drama of an investigation into the death of a drugs baron starring Christopher Eccleston and Chiwetel Ejiofor. If you’ve missed any of the previous episodes then click on the link provided.

I’ll link up some more great shows in my next post.

Until the next time, happy blogging.

I know I haven’t blogged in a donkey’s age. I just really had nothing to say.

So here’s a quick catchup on what I’ve been up to.

  • Looking for an endangered species called a “job”
  • Watched the World Snooker Championships
  • Immersed myself in a fantasy world that is “World of Warcraft” (aff link)

So what have you been up to?

Why is there a lack of communication from you when for whatever reason a show that is normally available on your on demand service isn’t available?

A quick update on the site would be enough. Allow the moderators to reply to the comments on the site, instead of them just removing the ones that break the terms and conditions of the site.

On the flip side, the commenters need to stop being lazy and use the links provided to report problems with the availability and stop relying upon others like myself to report them.

Do you have a twitter account, if not, get one asap and start communicating with your users. I’m aware you have facebook like buttons, but why not a twitter account?

Start communicating it isn’t rocket science!!!

I think I may have touched upon this subject before about negative commenters. I cannot find a blog post about it, could have imagined it.

Now I don’t mean the negative commenters who are actually making a valid point and making a counter argument about something, they are to be welcomed with open arms.

It is the commenters who have nothing better to say than “you suck”, “you’re a waste of space” etc.. To me these comments smack of jealousy, these are the commenters who will sit at their computer desks spouting bile because they don’t have the guts to get out there and push out content themselves, they happen to be jealous because someone is out there doing it.

If you think you can do a better job, stop bitching on youtube and in blog comments, go out there and do something about it. I read all comments, even those bile ridden comments, guess what I would normally ignore you guys, but no longer. I’m going to start challenging you all to come up with better reasons for disagreeing with something especially if the comment is full of bile and venom. You can disagree with someone without being nasty, derogatory and downright disrespectful. Leave that to the politicians.

I started this twitter conversation off not long ago:

http://twitter.com/#!/R_Arblaster/status/57365455555399680

Without going into much detail. I enjoyed it even though it reminds me of 28 Days Later.

Andrew Lincoln in the lead role to me is an interesting choice, a well made choice. I would definitely be freaked out if I discovered that everything I had known had been taken over by zombies. Really looking forward to episode 2.

Let me know what you think in the comments below.
