My wireless card problem, yet again reared its ugly head. It wouldn’t connect to WPA enabled routers. So I had to mess around re-installing Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy Heron). Which is down a full version from what I was running Ubuntu 9.04 (Jaunty Jackalope).

I think they should call the next version “Dead Parrot” as a reference to Monty Python’s Flying Circus.

I’m counting down the days to a Windows 7 laptop and a computer rebuild around it.

My love/hate relationship with Linux will be ending in 2010. I am just fed up of the many workarounds needed just to get something as simple as a wireless card to work.

I never really wanted into the Linux world full time it was thrust upon me as a temporary emergency measure so I could once more have a working machine.

Unfortunately this temporary stop gap has lasted over 18 months. Some days have been great, others have been diabolical. It’s not much fun battling with your equipment, it is very counter-productive.

Say what you will about Microsoft, at least their OS works out of the box, you don’t have to have a degree in programming or search for hours to get the slightest piece of hardware to work.

I’m really optomistic about what Windows 7 has to offer. I thankfully missed the vista era, not fully though as my mother and her fiance use a vista laptop that has its fair share of mishaps.

I’m counting down the days to the end of my forced “marriage” to linux, I hope the divorce isn’t too messy.
