Yes we all know that social media is a powerful tooland accessible to all, but if you treat it like a game or use it as a sounding off board without thinking something through 100% can have serious consequences mainly career wise. So before hitting that send button, make sure that what you post cannot be construed as bringing your employer into disrepute.

Don’t be surprised if you find your P45 waiting for you the next morning.

Yes that’s right I’m not going to ditch facebook just because I’m on google+.

For the simple fact, that not everyone will want to use google+ and will stay with facebook, like avid users of myspace won’t ditch it completely because they’re using something else.

I like to spread as far and wide as I can. I think hell with freeze over before google buys out facebook. If by some miracle that did happen and the platforms did integrate, then it would be a no brainer, I’d switch entirely to google+.  Until then I live in reality and will continue to use facebook and google+.

If you’ve been living under a rock, you won’t know about Google’s latest assault on Facebook’s domination of the social media universe.

They have launched a limited beta test of their latest offering, basically called “Google +”.

Yes we know what you’re all thinking, this is going to go the way of “Buzz” and “Wave” and the Dodo.

I was lucky to be sent an invite last night and have been having a little play around with it. Still got to get my head around it fully.

I’m mainly concentrating on the “Circles” part of the site at the moment, where you can add people to your circles, it’s like following someone on twitter and instead of putting them on a list as I tend to do, you add them to a circle of your choosing or you can use the ones Google offer you.

I’ll give you a full run down of what you can expect when I’ve used it a lot more.

I forgot how hectic this event is, seeing as I’d not been since the last one to be staged at the Coffee Lounge. Lots of people there. I didn’t speak to many as I wasn’t feeling that great.

I’ll make more of an effort the next one I attend. Look forward to seeing everyone again.

I’ve heard Diaspora mentioned a couple of times, so this morning I signed up for an invite.

Does anyone else have a Diaspora account? If so let me know in the comments what I can expect.

As tweeted and via updates to facebook.  I attended my first BSMC event. At first I was like a deer in headlights as I’d never been to one of these events before. That feeling soon dissapated as soon as I started talking to  people.

I met some really great people, I didn’t manage to speak to everyone, at the next event I will talk to those I never got a chance to say hello to and speak to.

As I remember twitter names I’ll be following you, so if you receive a follow request from @R_Arblaster then that’s me.

I’m really looking forward to the next event, hope to see you all there.

As you’ve all heard twitter are trialling a new API, called user stream API which should do away with API call limits. I’m not a coder so cannot really go into great detail about it. Other than basically all tweets whether they be in your friends stream, @replies etc., will now be displayed in real time as they are posted instead of having to wait for Tweetdeck to call on the API at set intervals to retrieve new tweets.

It’s fun just sitting there watching there watching the tweets come flooding in, you cannot keep up with the sheer volume if like me you are following over 1,000 people, you are best creating a load of search columns to filter out tweets of interest.

I’m definitely impressed and cannot wait for this to be rolled out to the masses.

I’m going to be embarking on a twitter restucture, trimming my followers down. If you find yourself trimmed from my following list, no offence intended, time for a re-focus of my energies.

You may at some point find yourself re-added, stranger things have happened.

Ok I’m back once more into the maelstrom that is the social media world. Got a lot of catching up to do and a lot more blogging to do as well.

I’ve added the facebook “like” button to the blog. This will send an update to Facebook telling your friends that you liked a particular post on the blog.

I’ve used a plug-in developed by Javier Reyes (www.sociable.es) v 3.0.2  it’s currently in beta.

Let me know what you think in the comments.
