… when I’m unemployed and don’t actually have a proper business of my own?

Crikey now I’ve outed myself.

The reason why I comment is, as an employee of many businesses, both as a permanent employee and temporary member of staff since I left school at the tender age of 16, whilst attempting to keep my head down and not stick out like a sore thumb.

You get to learn quite a lot of things, mostly common sense things, you think to yourself “why the hell are they doing it like that? Why not do it this way, it would be far more simpler and far more cost effective.”

As with any company as I alluded to in the first paragraph, you don’t say anything for fear of having ideas above your station and rocking the boat.

I’m not an expert, far from it, I’m an information sponge, when I was younger I used to watch the stock market like a hawk. I’m obsessed with money, even though I’m too lazy to go out and market myself to get the money.

I used to love watching “The Apprentice” when it first started. I just cannot bring myself to watch the last 3 series.

For people who claim they are so smart and the best at what they do, some of the mistakes are cringeworthy, basic errors.

They cannot have a discussion about a task without full on screaming and shouting fits and dismissing ideas with a wave of the hand. They should learn to put their “one up manship, win at all costs” attitude to one side and learn that they can only win as a team if they actually act as if they’re part of a team.

So the bottom line is why I comment is, I’m a nosey bugger, interested in what everyone else is doing, obsessed with figures and money.

As the title says this is the kind of reality TV I like. According to digitalspy Five are commisioning a series called “Business Inspector”.
I have been fascinated by how businesses are run from an early age. It’s great to bring in an outsider, they can see with fresh eyes where businesses are going wrong and hopefully save them from financial ruin.

What’s actually in a job title? In my opinion not a lot, it’s just a fancy title, it doesn’t really tell anyone what you do on a day to day basis.

Let’s just strip away the peel of the orange and take a look inside, the real juicy stuff is there, not the peel or pith that the job title generates.

For example when I see the job title “Finance Director” I just get the opinion that the person plays with numbers all day. What I don’t see is the precarious balancing act that the job entails to ensure that the business doesn’t go down the tubes because someone has made the decision to try and buy something that the company doesn’t really need or can ill-afford.

I like to see what people do on a day to day basis, I love reading “A Day in the life of XYZ” posts, it’s fascinating to see a snapshot of a single day.

That impresses me far more than a fancy job title. A job title just tells me where on the corporate ladder you are, doesn’t tell me whether you’re actually any good at your job or what you do from day to day.

So this is the “Supreme Overlord of the Wizzard’s Blog Empire” signing off.

In business we all know it can be cutthroat always looking at the bottom line. However how many owners/directors actually think about their employees?

Companies changing offices/policies, are the owners/directors doing it for the benefit of their employees or they doing it because it’s more convenient for them?

If you are the owner/director of a company, don’t take your eye off the ball, always look at the bigger picture. Never just do something because it’s convenient for you. If you start doing that you’ll have a lot of disgruntled employees.

Employees make a company remember that, if you suddenly lost all of your employees whould you be able to cope with the workload left behind?

Don’t move your office 100 miles down the motorway just because you’ve found a cheaper place to rent, what about your employees? Not all of them will relish the 200 mile round trip to work each day, or the possibility of having to relocate. Especially if there are young children involved, uprooting them having to find new schools, making new friends etc..

We’re not numbers on a spreadsheet, we are human beings and need to be treated as such.

If you want to cut your wages bill, take a salary cut yourself, put yourself in your employees shoes.

Are you getting a letter from Captial One stating that you are in arrears in your account?

This may come as a surprise to some of us because for one reason or another our accounts never actually reached the stage of becoming a full credit card account, which to me means that the account was never opened.

I had the same letter about 2 or 3 months ago, I phoned them up immediately and asked them what was going on? They told me that all of the people in this category had accidentally made their way on the main mailing list and told me to ignore the letter it was being sorted.

Well it seems that this isn’t the case, I’m not going to phone them this time, I am just going to ignore the letter as advised the first time I had received such a letter. If it does escalate any further then I will be calling them.

It has also got me thinking, if you’ve never opened your credit card account, why do they have an account number and still have your details on their systems? Is it some sort of mandatory regulation they have to comply with, let me know in the comments.

Has anyone else received such a letter? Again let me know in the comments.
